Shocking

This week, while surfing the web, I stumbled across a video of a young, black teen being beaten to death. There were about 50 people standing, watching, and participating in the beating, but no one called the police. Unfortunately, the teen died later as a result of the brutal beating.

So I ask, what the fuck is wrong with these people? And, by "these" people I'm referring to the young, inner-city, African Americans in Chicago that were there to witness the brutal murder. When did it become okay to kill a fellow "brotha"? When did it become okay to stand around and watch as a "brotha" is kicked, punched, and beaten to death with a 2 by 4? When did it become okay to NOT help a "brotha" out? When did it become okay to sit back and watch as a helpless child is beaten to death in broad daylight in the streets of America? When did this happen?

I'm disturbed by this: disturbed that mothers are raising their children to be hateful killers, disturbed that no one called the police to help the teen, disturbed that over 20 children have been murdered in Chicago since September, and disturbed that this is happening in America.

I don't know how to remedy the situation. I don't know what it's like to be an inner city teen dealing with violence. I have no idea what that's like. I'm thankful for that. But as a parent, I find it despicable that parents have raised these children to look the other way when violence occurs. I know that "snitches" sometimes find themselves in trouble with the trouble makers, but isn't some one's life worth that much?

When did young, African American teens become disposable? Isn't every life worth living and fighting for? I'm sure if this were a young WHITE teen, the freaking cavalry would come out and clean up the streets. I bet heads would roll, the police would be on every corner, and the freaking National Guard would be called out to make the streets safer.

But, instead, we just shake our heads in disbelief as another young, black teen is senselessly beaten to death in broad daylight as 50 young people stand and watch.

I hope Mr. Obama is aware of the state of his beloved Chicago. I hope he's man enough to do something about it. I dare him to send his children to an inner city school! I dare him! Maybe then things would change!

I agree with everything you said except the part about " white kids ". That's bullshit.

The Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons of the world are as responsible for this as anybody. The are apologists for bad behavior. The Jena 6 beat the hell out of a kid, and all we hear is that the attackers are being mistreated. When will someone in the Black community stand up for PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ?

When will someone say that people need to act like human beings, and not animals ?
Black, white, Hispanic .... it doesn't matter. Common courtesy and common decency are not being taught because a lot of these children don't have a real family.

As soon as Black leaders have the GUTS to stand up like Bill Cosby and tell the TRUTH, then things will change.

I agree that certain people out there are making excuses for such neglegent behavior. I also agree that there is a lack of Personal Respnsibility amongst certain groups of people. And I agree that Dr. Cosby is about the only person out there telling it like it is.

But, until something seriously changes out there, kids are still going to die. Over 20 kids have died since SEPTEMBER!!! Something needs to happen NOW so that no more precious lives are lost on the way to school.

I agree people need to act like humans and all that, but still, children are dying on their way to school in America! This is unacceptable! Until people change (which takes time, by the way) more children will die in the streets of Chicago.

As a minority woman, with a minority child, this is unacceptable!

I understand that there are real family issues surrounding the violence. But family issues aren't resolved over night. And until they are, more children will be hurt or killed.

All I'm saying is there needs to be people out there keeping these kids safe. If the freaking National Guard needs to be called up, then they should do it. But instead, they just sit back and watch as 20 precious children are killed on Chicago's streets.

As an American, I feel this is totally unacceptable!

I agree. Here's a thought ....put some people in jail ....not juvey, but real jail.
I don't give a crap if you're 14. You do the crime, do the time.

Children don't need to be in fear of their lives on a simple trip to school.

Unfortunately, until the culture surrounding these kids changes, not much else will.

You ever notice it seems to be the best and brightest that get killed in these attacks ?
